Physiological importance:
Biotin is essential for growth and in addition to the following tasks is also involved in various metabolic reactions. It is a constituent of various enzymes, takes charge of functions in carbohydrate metabolism, synthesis of fatty acids, transfer of CO2 to other compounds (carboxylations). Biotin is involved also in the synthesis of proteins and purines and has relationships with vitamin B6, B12, C, folic acid and pantothenic acid.
