Physiological importance:
As a constituent of coenzyme A, pantothenic acid is involved in many reactions of protein, carbohydrate and fat metabolism. It has a special function in the synthesis and breaking down of fats, as the transfer of C2 units (activated acetic acid) and the activation of long-chain fatty acids is carried out by coenzyme A. < /br> Activated acetic acid is necessary for the synthesis of phospholipids, cholesterol and several steroid hormones. The importance of pantothenic acid is also demonstrated by the fact that coenzyme A is found in all types of tissues.
