Vitamin B1 (Thiamine)

Feed Additive for Feed Production

Vitamin B 1 powder for animal feed production

Lutavit® B1 Mononitrate is suitable for use in all types of feed. It is slightly soluble in water (20 °C), easily soluble in boiling water, sparingly soluble in ethanol and methanol.

Lutavit® B1 HCl is completely soluble in water, soluble in glycerol, virtually insoluble in ether, acetone, toluene and chloroform. Therefore it is used in all types of feed where solubility in water is of importance.

Vitamin B1 is very stable in dry form and in acidic solution below pH value 4.5. In neutral or alkaline solutions, especially under the influence of light, relatively rapid decomposition occurs. Solutions of Vitamin B1 are sensitive to oxidation; they should not come into contact with metals.

Physiological importance:

Vitamin B1 regulates the carbohydrate metabolism as thiamine pyrophosphoric acid ester (cocarboxylase). It is furthermore important for normal function of nerve tissue and heart muscle. Vitamin B1 additionally exerts a protective effect on the gastrointestinal tract, and it is important for maintaining normal conditions for peristaltis, fat absorption and enzyme activity.

BASF ChemTrade markets vitamin B1 powder as Mononitrate or HCl formulation for use in animal feed under the brand name Lutavit®.
